Jehosheba: She Did What Heaven Needed

One woman. One child. One decision made in the dark.
And the entire messianic line was saved.
2 Chronicles 22:11 tells us that when Athaliah began her murderous purge of the royal family — killing every heir to David’s throne to secure her own power — a woman named Jehosheba slipped into the slaughter and pulled out one infant boy. Joash. The son of her brother, the king. She hid him and his nurse in a bedroom, away from Athaliah’s reach, and then carried him to the house of God where he remained hidden for six years.
Six years. While a usurper sat on David’s throne, the rightful heir was concealed in the temple — the house of the Lord, the one place Athaliah’s reach did not extend. Jehosheba and her husband Jehoiada the priest raised him there in secret, at personal risk, day after day, year after year, never knowing exactly when or how the moment of restoration would come.
They just kept him safe. They kept faith with what God had entrusted to them.
And in the seventh year Jehoiada brought Joash out, anointed him king, and Athaliah’s reign ended. The covenant God had made with David — that his line would endure — had been preserved by one woman’s split-second decision to reach into the carnage and pull out a baby.
Jehosheba never preached a sermon. She never led an army. She never performed a miracle. She simply saw what needed to be protected and protected it — quietly, faithfully, at great personal cost, for as long as it took.
Romans 8:28 promises us — “all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Jehosheba loved God enough to act when acting was dangerous. And God worked through her act to preserve the line through which the Messiah would one day come.
God may have placed something in your care that is more significant than you know. A child, a calling, a promise, a person — something that needs protecting, nurturing, keeping safe until the appointed time.
Don’t let go of it. Don’t grow weary of the hidden years.
Jehosheba kept her charge for six years in secret. Heaven knew every one of them.
