Huldah: When the King Needed a Word From God

Jerusalem had prophets. When King Josiah’s officials set out to seek a word from the Lord, they could have gone to Jeremiah. They could have gone to Zephaniah. Both were active, respected, and available.
They went to Huldah.
2 Kings 22 tells us that when the Book of the Law was discovered in the temple during Josiah’s reign, the king was shaken to his core. He tore his robes in grief, recognising how far his nation had drifted from God’s commands. He needed to hear from Heaven — and the person the king’s delegation trusted to deliver that word was a woman named Huldah, a prophetess living in Jerusalem.
She didn’t hesitate and she didn’t soften it. She spoke with the full authority of a prophet — “Thus says the Lord God of Israel.” 2 Kings 22:15. She declared that judgment was coming upon Judah for its years of idolatry and disobedience. And then she delivered a personal word for Josiah — because he had humbled his heart before God, because he had wept and repented, the disaster would not come during his lifetime.
That word set an entire national reformation in motion. Josiah gathered all the people of Judah, read the Book of the Law publicly, and led the most sweeping revival in the nation’s history — all because one woman delivered God’s word with clarity, courage and authority.
Friend, this is what the prophetic gift looks like when it is fully surrendered to God. Huldah didn’t seek a platform. She simply said what God said, to whoever needed to hear it, with no apology and no hesitation.
The Holy Spirit is still looking for that kind of vessel today — men and women who will carry His word faithfully, speak it clearly, and trust Him with the outcome.
Huldah’s word changed a nation. Yours might too.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
